I'd love some advice on building good working relationships with vendors. My new role involves lots of communication with vendors. I'm wondering if there's anyone out there like me and where they ended up? I ended up in retail and, while I'm glad I found a job, I do feel sad I was never able to make a go with libraries. My last interviews years ago for librarian and paraprofessional jobs always included "Where's your experience?" so I stopped looking at libraries and looked elsewhere. I'm not really looking for advice about how to get into libraries (that ship has sailed, I believe.) but I'm just curious if there are others that went through a similar situation?Ripbergerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01685894007541567391noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4061870849031468581.post-17231835786134018722019-02-26T09:43:16.246-05:002019-02-26T09:43:16.246-05:00Some of my student workers at the library are inte...Some of my student workers at the library are interested in pursuing an MLIS, but honestly aren't sure if the jobs will be there, or if they will have to relocate to get jobs. I know as a recent graduate myself, relocation was required for me to compete for "entry level" jobs which still too often require multiple years experience. What advice do you have for those paralyzed from the get-go but passionate about libraries?Paulbrarianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17126487163413246194noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4061870849031468581.post-41506208997314069962019-02-14T21:39:49.945-05:002019-02-14T21:39:49.945-05:00Thank you for this post. The kids for the most part are great but the staff really bums me out. Guess that's what happens when you're the new librarian taking over the retired librarian who was there for 15 years. I have been told to my face that whatever I am trying to do is not how the old librarian did it. Many times. I just want to get into the groove of things but somedays, I just want to get up, leave and never return...but I can't. I need the money. I've started to pep talk myself in the mornings and texting other librarians in my district daily helps. I keep reminding myself that I got all my wonderful things at home (my boys, my dogs and tortoise). All my happiness is outside. I also have decided to keep my workout regimen up by adding weightlifting. Believe me, it helps. :) skull.kittenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06070841572908893391noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4061870849031468581.post-55678667213769952312019-01-17T09:27:14.984-05:002019-01-17T09:27:14.984-05:00Insightful.
